Purpose of the role:
- To provide strategic leadership and management and exercises operational control of the activities, operations, and personnel of the flight department to achieve the company’s goals and objectives.
- Maintain the highest level of quality, safety, service and standards
- Act as the liaison with local regulators and stakeholders, as well as airlines, airport staff and other users regarding operations; attend public meetings regarding airport operations; coordinates, updates, and ensures compliance.
Essential Duties & Accountabilities
- An active member of the leadership team; preparing strategic, long, medium and short-term goals that achieve the corporate and departmental objectives.
- Ensure Operations are conducted in accordance with the conditions and restrictions of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC), and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards of the company.
- Represent the company in aviation matters through trade associations, the regulatory bodies, airport management, community organizations and contracted suppliers and other stakeholders.
- Ensure the validity and availability of all required Certificates and Operations Specifications, including certificate renewals, waivers, authority for deviations and all amendments therein.
- Advise management on the status and requirements for aircraft and other equipment consistent with the company’s needs and goals.
- Ensure that high levels of customer service is provided by the flight operations department to its customers
- Maintain updated copies of all required company, KCAA approved manuals, preparing and submitting revisions for approval as necessary, and ensuring compliance in Flight Operations.
- Participate actively in Quality and Safety Management Systems for all Flight Operation
- Participate in accompany flights to observe the performance of the crew.
- Prepare, monitor & control annual operating budgets that include operating expenses, facilities, supplies, outside services, personnel, training, capital expenses and reserves, ensuring optimal resources management.
Qualification & Experience
- Current airline transport pilot license (ATPL) with the appropriate ratings
- At least three years’ experience as pilot-in-command in commercial air transport operations
- Added advantage if TRI/TRE (simulator instructor)
- Some knowledge of low-cost carriers a plus
- Thorough awareness of Commercial Airline industry dynamics and business environment
