Funding Manager

Our client, a leading education and media NGO in Kenya, dealing with the education of the girl-child is looking for a short-term consultant to join their team to expand their offering by researching and pursuing new funding and strategic partnership opportunities in Kenya and connecting senior managers to those with high potential.

You would be responsible for generating leads and following up on existing leads including working with senior managers to pitch and close new opportunities and ensure strategic growth of the organization. Growth will build on the organization’s history of work in the country, strong government relations, and particularly its current DFID/Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC)-supported program, with a range of teaching and learning and media for change interventions that have demonstrated effectiveness and potential for impact at scale.

Fixed short term consultancy (6-8months)

The Role

Working closely with the Regional Director (East and Southern Africa) and Kenya Project Director, your role will be: 

  • Gain understanding of proven interventions that have strong system-level sustainability and scale-up potential.
  • Identify local funding/partnership opportunities in Kenya for such scale-up. 
  • Help sell the organization’s educational offering to potential funders in the development and business community. 
  • Attend face-to-face meetings with senior managers and events to nurture relationships with existing and new prospective partners and donors.
  • Work across all relevant touch points to develop and expand the organization’s contact base.
  • At the direction of senior management, help generate concepts/proposals for funding and follow up on all leads to deliver and raise funds for future projects and initiatives of the organisation in Kenya. 

The candidate

  • Have a proven track record of winning new funding to ensure agreed targets have been met.
  • Demonstrate experience previously in fundraising in the corporate and development sector.
  • Strong communication skills to ensure you can liaise cross-department and engage externally to build relationships.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as a part of a team to ensure effectively completing daily tasks.
